The challenge

As Malaysia accelerates its transition towards cleaner and more resilient energy, the demand for utility-scale renewable power continues to grow. The challenge at Bukit Selambau was to deliver a high-capacity solar photovoltaic plant capable of generating reliable clean electricity for the national grid, while meeting strict technical, environmental and project delivery requirements under Malaysia’s Large Scale Solar programme. Developing a 50MWac solar farm required more than panel installation. It demanded coordinated civil, mechanical and electrical execution, efficient land optimisation, grid interconnection readiness, long-term plant reliability and compliance with national renewable energy standards. The project also needed to support Malaysia’s decarbonisation agenda by reducing dependence on fossil-based electricity generation.

Our approach

The Bukit Selambau LSS project was developed as a grid-connected, utility-scale solar PV facility designed for long-term renewable energy generation. The plant integrates high-efficiency bi-facial N-type solar modules, inverter systems, combiner boxes, DC/AC infrastructure, overhead cable transmission and interconnection facilities to support stable delivery of solar power into the grid. Through an Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning approach, the project focused on practical execution, system reliability and operational readiness. Every stage — from site preparation and piling works to module installation, electrical integration, testing and commissioning — was aligned to deliver a solar asset that is efficient, scalable and built for long-term performance. The plant also reflects a broader sustainability approach: generating renewable electricity, supporting Malaysia’s energy transition, creating local economic activity and contributing to a cleaner power supply for future generations.

The result

The 50MWac Bukit Selambau solar photovoltaic plant now stands as a major renewable energy asset in Kedah. With 131,490 solar PV modules and a 25-year power purchase agreement, the facility strengthens Malaysia’s renewable energy capacity while supporting national carbon reduction goals. The project contributes clean electricity to the grid and is expected to reduce annual carbon emissions significantly, reinforcing the role of large-scale solar as a practical pathway towards lower-carbon power generation. Its operation demonstrates how well-planned solar infrastructure can convert available land and sunlight into measurable environmental, economic and energy value.
